LONDON (USA TODAY) — The USA's Jordan Burroughs, whose Twitter handle is "All I See is Gold," backed up his tweets Friday night by winning the gold medal in the 163-pound class of Olympic freestyle wrestling.
This year Olympic gold comes with a $250,000 bonus from USA Wrestling.
In the final, the 24-year-old Burroughs defeated Sadegh Goudarzi of Iran, the same wrestler he beat for a world title last year fresh off his career as a two-time NCAA champion at Nebraska.
In Olympic wrestling, each of three, two-minute periods is scored separately. The first wrestler to wins two periods wins the match.
Burroughs beat Goudarzi 1-0, 1-0. In each period, Burroughs hit a double leg takedown with about 11 seconds left for the deciding point.
Through its Living the Dream Medal Fund, USA Wrestling pledged the $250,000 this year to any Olympian who won wrestling gold. Burroughs is the first U.S. wrestler in London to win gold.
After his triumph, Burroughs wrapped himself in the U.S. flag and made a jump to the top of the medal podium nearby. The official medal ceremony was to follow.

Low resolution

High resolution:

this page of the Heute newspaper contains two articles, the first of which is about Murray and his medals and his dogs, and the second one is about Steiner, the German weightlifting sportsman and his failure at weightlifting. At the end of the second article the Iranian weightlifter is named as the gold medal winner and nothing more.

NASA mohawk guy: Bobak Ferdowsi with his latest tonsorial creation

Mars rover Curiosity: upstaged by Nasa mohawk guy

Ferdowsi gets a new haircut every mission. Previous incarnations range from flamboyant blocks of red to relatively sedate quiffs, and this particular one was voted for by his colleagues. In the past, Ferdowsi's follical exploits were just a Nasa in-joke. But after his exposure last night, the world's hippest astrophysicist is now an internet meme. Within an hour, Ferdowski had a dedicated Tumblr – Fuck Yeah Bobak Ferdowski– which collated the many mohawk-themed drawings, tweets and blogposts that Ferdowski's newfound fanbase had created. "Proof that Nasa has a time machine," read one offering. "PUNK SCIENCE!" saidanother. By this morning, Ferdowsi had gained 10,000 Twitter followers – and only became aware of the mayhem after the robot had landed. As one example of the meme had it: "Becomes an internet sensation. Too busy landing a robot on Mars to notice."
